Another change in the weather this week means I'm shivering in my shed typing this. The sun is out and its glorious, just a bit nippy for the fingers....
This sort of cold is great, it should herald the end of any lingering aphids and cut down on some of the molds and powdery mildew on the greens. It also means lots of pretty pictures of frost etc which is nice. On the down side it forces some changes to how we pick. You can't pick a frozen leaf, or you can but it will turn to mush and go slimy. What you have to do is wait until it's defrosted on the plant and then pick. This can lead to sitting around waiting for things to warm up which makes you feel silly. The picture of the red russian is a example of this. Those leaves are all flopped down and soft, give it a few hours and they will much more upright and ready to be picked.
In other news we have joined up with Oxford based private chef Sarada Wong, who is also a market customer to make recipes for us. Sarada will be getting a veg box for the following week and creating something from it, her first one which is a last of the tomatoes Galette is pictured. This will mean each week there should be a meal idea which is linked exactly with what we have on offer right now.
If you are interested they will be posted on our Instagram each week and will also be added to the recipe section of our website as well. I'm really looking forward to this collaboration, Sarada is really nice and her food looks and tastes brilliant.
Emmy is on the market tomorrow so please go down and say hi.
